Xbox Live on 360 in 2026: marketplace gone, identity not
Newcomers arrive from “360 store closed” headlines and assume the console is a brick. It is not. Many games still have servers, friends lists still exist for accounts that can sign in, and the 360 remains a living-room box for discs, GOD backups, original Xbox backward compatibility, and Kinect experiments. What closed is a storefront, not the idea of a console identity.
That identity is still a KeyVault. Homebrew culture exploded again in 2025–2026 because Bad Update made Winchester and E models interesting without solder. Those players search Aurora, XeUnshackle, FATXplorer, 2TB internal HDD, and Rock Band Blitz — not “buy KV.” They still have kv.bin. If this scene lasts, some of them will RGH3 a Trinity they already own. Some will sell the E. Some will plug Ethernet into an “offline” dump they posted publicly. Identity hygiene is how you market a vault to the whole modding graph, not only to people mid-ban.
What I tell each camp
| Camp | Live? | KV takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| RGH3 daily Live | Yes, with stealth | Unshared vault + plugin |
| RGH3 offline Aurora | No | Backup original; don’t clone |
| Bad Update Winchester | Optional, fragile | Same vault in retail NAND |
| Collectors / sellers | Maybe later | Don’t ship a pack vault |
Marketplace closure also pushed more people to disc and to file formats: ISO, extracted, GOD. None of those formats replace NAND. FATXplorer is not J-Runner. Keep both backups if you like your save files.
